While other countries popular among freelancers are in no hurry to open their borders, the authorities of Barbados announced a unique offer. Foreigners working remotely will be able to live and work on the islands for a year.
It is possible to go to the island alone or as a family. To do this, you need to fill out an application and pay a fee: $2000 for single travelers, $3000 – for the family. To obtain a visa, your annual income must be at minimum $50,000.
Self-employed and internet-based employees may stay in Barbados for up to 12 months. This is beneficial for the state itself, because the direct share of tourism in its GDP is 12%. And indirectly, the figure can reach 40%. Also, the tourism business creates a lot of jobs.
It is convenient for copywriters, IT specialists, bloggers and other people with remote employment. On the islands there is no coronavirus pandemic and almost no restrictions, except the social distance. You can go to sports games, mass events, relax on beautiful beaches.
There is a large expat community on the island. Expats living and working in Barbados are mainly from the Caribbean, UK, USA and Canada. There are many clubs to join such as the American women’s club, Canadian women’s club, majong club, cards group, sailing club, etc.
