The island state has announced a new tourist visa for the period of one year. So-called Premium Travel Visa aims to attract digital nomads and retirees looking for a tropical and COVID-safe environment.
Mauritius is located 1,000 km off the east coast of Madagascar. The country is known for its beaches and luxury resorts. There are plenty of places to hike, as well as world-class diving and snorkeling spots. It is a good place for wildlife lovers. Away from the resorts you can find new cultural experiences and quiet fishing villages. All visitors to the island can be sure of their safety: Mauritius has one of the lowest Covid rates in the world.
Prior to the introduction of the Premium Visa foreigners were granted a tourist visa for a period of stay not exceeding 180 days in a year. Premium Travel Visa scheme sounds much more attractive for long stayers as it is valid for up to one year and is renewable. Premium visa is free of charge and its issuing takes no more than a couple of days.
Mauritius Premium Visa Requirements
This visa can be granted to tourists, retirees, parents of children studying in Mauritius, or professionals who want to work here remotely. In order to get it you need to provide proof of your plans for a long-term stay and have travel and medical insurance to cover the costs during the initial period of stay.
You must also prove that your source of income is outside Mauritius. Your earnings must meet the following criteria: the minimum required amount is USD 1500/month per adult and USD 500/month for each dependent below 24 years old.
Prepare for a 14-day quarantine and several PCR tests after arrival. Mauritius is on the small list of Covid free countries. Quarantine is necessary to maintain a high level of safety.
